چکیده

Abstract GaN two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystal nanocavities with a single embedded InGaN quantum well are undercut by photo-electrochemical (PEC) etching and optically characterized to investigate the fundamental mode. The PEC selectively removes an InGaN-based sacrificial layer form air-suspended cavity slabs. We investigated resonant modes of micro-photoluminescence spectroscopy measurement at room temperature. wavelengths measured peaks their dependence on period agreed numerical analysis, allowing us determine mode in spectra. highest quality factor for reached 3400 blue wavelengths. This work would contribute improvement 2D using as applications towards integrated light sources visible

Tailoring of the resonant mode properties of optical nanocavities in two-dimensional photonic crystal slab waveguides

Optically thin dielectric slabs, in which a fully etched-through two-dimensional patterning is applied, are used to form high-Q optical cavities with modal volumes approaching the theoretical limit of a cubic half-wavelength. Resonant cavities are formed from local defect regions within the photonic lattice. Simple group theoretical techniques are developed to design cavities which support reso...

Enhanced photoluminescence emission from two-dimensional silicon photonic crystal nanocavities

We present a temperature-dependent photoluminescence study of silicon optical nanocavities formed by introducing point defects into twodimensional photonic crystals. In addition to the prominent TO-phonon-assisted transition from crystalline silicon at ∼1.10 eV, we observe a broad defect band luminescence from ∼1.05 to ∼1.09 eV. Spatially resolved spectroscopy demonstrates that this defect band...

Fabrication of GaN-based Photonic Crystal Structures by Reactive Ion Etching 87 Fabrication of GaN-based Photonic Crystal Structures by Reactive Ion Etching

The fabrication of the 2D GaN-based photonic crystal structure at optical scales, a subμm scale in our case is very challenging. In our work, a double-etching method proved to be feasible to achieve the periodic GaN/air variation. The pattern was defined in a PMMA resist by electron-beam lithography and transferred to SiO2 by reactive ion etching (RIE) in a CF4 plasma and further into GaN by RI...

Coupled photonic crystal heterostructure nanocavities.

We show the first experimental demonstration of multiple heterostructure photonic crystal cavities being coupled together to form a chain of coupled resonators with up to ten cavities. This system allows us to engineer the group velocity of light over a wide range. Devices were fabricated using 193 nm deep UV lithography and standard silicon processing technology. Structures were analysed using...

Hybrid photonic-plasmonic crystal nanocavities.

We propose a hybrid optical nanocavity consisting of photonic crystals coupled to a metal surface with a nanoscale air gap between. The hybridization of photonic crystal modes and surface plasmons across the gap forms hybrid cavity modes, which are highly confined in the low-loss air gap region. Deep subwavelength mode volume and high quality factor are demonstrated at telecommunication wavelen...
